A quick thought about "If you want something done right, do it yourself"
There are times where a task needs to be accomplished. That task has specific evaluations for success, namely, our own evaluations. We see something that needs to be done, and we may delegate that task only to later discover the task was not done to a satisfactory level of completion. This leads us to repeat the common phrase "if you want something done right, do it yourself".
Sometimes the task was only half finished, sometimes the task was finished with sub-par polish, sometimes the task was misunderstood and zero progress was made on the actual task. There are a host of ways in which a task can be left undone, and the original delegator must come in to finish the job in a satisfactory manner.
This is a part of life on a daily basis in homes, in businesses, in education, in politics, and in the life of the church body. Sometimes the best way to get something done, is to do it yourself, rather than to delegate the task. The problem is, we're finite. We can't do everything that needs to be done ourselves. This is one of the blessings of delegation, and the blessings of working, and living among people whom you trust. You can trust that a task will be done when asked or needed.
Not every task though is a misunderstanding on the part of the delegated or assigned task completer. In many cases a task not getting done right the first time, is a failure on a delegator to communicate clearly the vision for the task in its completed state. There are times where an unsatisfactory task that we've delegated is staring us back in the face as plain as day saying "maybe you could improve your delegation skills".
Sometimes, if you want something done right, you do need to do it yourself. A wise leader can recognize when a task requires their individual attention and skills, and when delegation is the better course of action. A wise leader in the home, in business, in education, in politics, and in the life of the church will see a failed delegated task as an opportunity to improve their own leadership.
Life is full of tasks, sometimes you've got to do it right and that means you do it yourself. Sometimes the task has to be done right, and that means you've got to delegate it correctly from the beginning.
